    Brotherly Love

Andrew meets Teddy and our hearts burst a little!

  • Ready for Teddy!

    Ready for Teddy!

Welcome to the world Henry Theodore Phillips! We are elated to finally meet you….and learn that you are actually a HE!

Little man Teddy was born EXACTLY on his due date; February 18, 2017 at 2:18 am in Morristown, NJ. He weighed 7 lbs 13 oz and was 21 1/4 inches long. He’s ever so slightly larger than his brother at birth although currently possesses a lighter more ‘Kleinfelter’ shade of hair. But like his big brother, he has wonderfully blue eyes.

So, how did it all happen?! Well the story is much shorter and less painful than his brothers’ but here it goes. Around 7pm on Friday February 17, 2017 I started with contractions. Instantly the contractions were long enough (1 minute in duration) and close enough (5-8 minutes apart) which put us into the ‘zone.’ After the required 1 hour of consistent contractions we called the doctor. While we could have waited slightly longer, I now knew the power, beauty and wonder that is an Epidural and did NOT want to miss my window. So we called the doc, shared our data (again tracked by the appropriate app) and were given the green light to head to the hospital.

I kissed Andrew goodbye (an obvious new step in the process from last time) who was already in bed, hugged my parents and off we went. I was admitted to the hospital around 10 pm- at which point my contractions were consistently 2-3 minutes apart and I was 5cm dilated. By 12 am I was in my room being visited by the miracle man, aka the anesthesiologist, with my Epidural. After his stop in delivery room 12, I was in my happy place. But I was still having some intense pain in my back so the doctor gave me a ‘bolster’ which took me then to my VERY  happy place. Afterwards I felt nothing, no where.

Slightly after the happy drugs the doctor broke my water which consequently kicked my contractions up to 90 seconds apart. At 1:55 am the pushing began and by 2:18 am on February 18, 2017 Henry Theodore Phillips joined the world, completed our little family and filled our hearts with endless love! So were we surprised that HTP was a boy? Simply put, ‘yup.’ Both Andy and I were non-committal on Teddy’s gender during pregnancy but deep down thought he would be a she. I mean how could the Chinese gender chart, ring test, heart beat analysis and various other old wives tales be wrong?! It’s practically science. BUT we are blessed to be the parents of two cute little boys and can’t wait to start this new chapter in the Phillips family adventure! Bring on the planes, trains, diggers, cars, and all things little boy!

And why Henry Theodore? Henry is a family name on Andy’s side and Theodore, well we just loved the name Teddy. So why not name a boy you adore with a name you love?!

  • T-5 Days…..Maybe

    T-5 Days…..Maybe

There’s no question now, we’re in the home stretch with baby #2! Our due date is officially 5 days away! February 18, 2017 felt light years away when we started this journey in June and now it’s hard to believe we’ll be a family of four in just days! But seriously, any time this baby wants to make it’s grand entrance is fine with me. I’m mentally ready, my bags are packed, slightly rested from the weekend (about as good as it will get), there’s no snow in the forecast, all grandparents are in position and I’m pretty sure Andy is well over my daily (really hourly) complaining about my general discomfort.

So as we start to close this pregnancy chapter (FOREVER! There will be NO trying for a 3rd folks), I thought it important to take a moment to reflect….because I may never get a moment to myself EVER again.

    • What did I like most about being pregnant? To be honest, the 40 weeks leading up to child birth is not my fave. It’s uncomfortable, filled with restrictions on things I can’t eat, drink and do (which I don’t do well with) and just exhausting. But knowing at the end of this journey I’ve helped create a perfect little person with my best friend is pretty astounding and humbling. It somehow makes it all worth it. I’d also add that pregnancy is without question a bonding experience. The level of truly ‘REAL’- I mean downright deeply personal and sometimes gross- conversations I’ve had with my closest support system of other mommies has without question strengthened bonds with some of my most favorite people. I feel so lucky to have an amazing network of women and a wonderfully understanding husband in my corner.
    • What did I like least? I miss wine. And not feeling like I’m constantly going to pee my pants.
    • Does it feel different the second time? Yes! Baby P #2 is WAY more active than Andrew. I’m talking full somersaults and kickboxing in utero…constantly. God help us if this child is even more active, energetic and curious than Andrew!
    • What am I most excited about? Seeing Andrew as a big brother.
    • What am I most nervous about? Handling the inevitable toddler tantrum in Costco, Target, Wegmans, etc. with a fiery two year old and infant. Literally carrying two kids at once scares me…
    • Girl or Boy? We took an unofficial poll a few weeks ago. Grandma and Grandpa James vote girl. Coco and Papa vote girl. Aunt Kiki votes girl. The Barbas vote boy (though are VERY much hoping for a niece!). Andrew just wants to name the baby- boy or girl- Bob. Daddy won’t commit to a guess. And mommy just wants it healthy and out.
    • When will the big day actually happen? Today works. But I think this kid will be much closer to their due date, just like big brother.

So for now we wait, enjoy our last few days with just Andrew and I look like this:

  • Welcome 2017!

    Welcome 2017!

Grandma and grandpa James came to New Jersey to help us say goodbye to 2016 and ring in the new year (and provide some VERY helpful babysitting!).

They watched Andrew while mommy and daddy had a little getaway to Philadelphia before baby #2. Andrew and his grandparents also rang in the new year together so we could hit the town… as much as a pregnant lady can party! They went to the movies to see Sing! at our local theater while we went to Morristown with friends for some celebration. Everyone enjoyed themesleves…. arguably daddy even had too much fun! ?

    Ready for 2017!

Movie time with grandma and grandpa! Out and about! Impressed that two pregnant ladies made it to 12:30 before heading home!

Happy 2017! Best wishes for health, prosperity and Happiness in the new year. It goes without saying that we’re most excited to complete our family and welcome our baby girl or baby boy this year! ❤

  • Feliz Navidad!

    Feliz Navidad!

Our house was turned into a make shift toy factory on Christmas morning! Andrew was blessed with a Bob the Builder work bench, train table and Thomas the Train roller coaster to just name a few gifts. The adults didn’t do so bad themselves!

After a nap we hosted Christmas dinner with our dear friends the Jolly’s and the others Phillips’s of Far Hills. So nice to have a big table filled with great friends and family! A true Christmas blessing! And a little silliness with Aunt Kiki!

  • Christmas Eve!

    Christmas Eve!

We had a great family Christmas together in New Jersey! Albeit short, we managed to squeeze in lots of eating, drinking and festive holiday merriment into the weekend!

We started with baking sandtarts bright and early Saturday morning. Sandtarts are a Kleinfelter family tradition and one that we needed to properly indoctrinate the Andrews into! Watching the Polar Express….for the 77th time. Santa + trains = Andrew’s favorite holiday movie.  Off to Christmas Eve services at St. Marks. Andrew did great thanks to the help of gold fish, Thomas and some manhandling by Daddy. One last story before its off to bed. Sweet dreams dear boy. Santa is on his way! Santa enjoyed a lovely dinner together once the little man went to sleep!

  • Turkey Day in Maryland

    Turkey Day in Maryland

Slightly delayed but oh well…. This year was PB&J (Phillips, Barba & James) family Thanksgiving in Maryland. Great time with 3- soon to be 5!- little kiddos at Grandma and Grandpas. We visited the nature center, stuffed ourselves with delicious food and hit up the local bounce factory for some Black Friday fun. We even managed to sneak in a family photo shoot that came out surprisingly well considering we needed to wrangle 6 adults, 3 active kiddos, 2 pregnant ladies and a partridge in a pear tree!

Making lots of noise and fun at the nature center’s music garden!

    Silly selfie!

Cousin love! Andrew had a BLAST with his cousins. He finds Charlotte hysterical and just wants to play with her constantly. He and Everett also seemed to really like playing together. Though they are both learning how to share, take turns and play nice together. ‘No pushing’ was a common phrase heard around the house that weekend; even the boys said it to each other!Belated 2nd birthday celebration for A!Charlotte is the coolest. Bounce house fun! 7b1a63817b1a63537b1a63077b1a63047b1a6299 Keeping the boys happy, clean and occupied before family photos with some Bob the Builder! img_4715.jpg img_4714.jpg 7b1a6077 7b1a6093 7b1a6146  7b1a6148  7b1a6150 7b1a6163 7b1a6170 7b1a6179 7b1a6191 7b1a6194 7b1a6199 7b1a6203  7b1a6219 7b1a6226 7b1a6240 7b1a6243 7b1a6256 7b1a6289Sometimes it’s crazy to think about how different this family will look in just a a few months!

  • Christmas Tree Farm

    Christmas Tree Farm

Today we traveled up to Hidden Pond Farm in Mendham to find our Christmas tree. This place was super quaint and included a tractor ride, hot chocolate and toasty marshmellows. And of course the whole experience is more fun with friends! ❤️?❤️

  • Two!

    Two!

Birthday central in New Jersey this weekend! Both Andrew and Austin celebrated their 2nd birthdays. It’s incredibly hard to believe these little men are already two years old. How did that happen?!?! But it was wonderful to create another milestone memory and even have Aunt Kiki join us for the festivities!

After swim lessons on Saturday we headed to Austin’s birthday party; complete with a bounce house. Andrew christened the bouncey and had no problems being the only kid in there. But his favorite parts were the pizza and cupcakes. Lots of love to Andrew’s best buddy Austin on his 2nd birthday!

After swim lessons, a bounce house and party, Andrew took an epic nap. Once he woke up we played outside and even built a campfire with Aunt Kiki! Andy is teaching him the ways of the campfire (boy scout approved techniques obviously). I’m just happy he recognizes that it’s ‘HOT.’

And on Sunday, the grand finale! Andrew’s 2nd birthday party! Since 3 of Andrew’s 4 best buds from school all turn two within 10 days of each other, we decided to throw a joint birthday party for Andrew and his friends Abby and JP. We hosted a superhero themed party at Gymboree for 14 (!) of their cousins, buddies and classmates. It was semi-controlled chaos for 90 minutes as they ran, jumped, climbed on the equipment, threw balls, played with the parachute, danced, sang songs and more. This type of activity is the definition of the types of things Andrew loves to do. And mommy loved that all of this fun (and mess) wasn’t happening at her house. Win, win! Afterwards, we ate cupcakes and sang happy birthday. Short, sweet, and to the point. 7b1a5871 7b1a5869  7b1a5860 7b1a5969 7b1a5967 7b1a5961 7b1a5954 7b1a5940 7b1a5924 7b1a5909 7b1a5894 7b1a5890 7b1a5886  7b1a5880 7b1a5876

Happy 2nd birthday Andrew William! We know you’ll never remember this day but your smile, dance moves and giggles will forever live in our memories. Thank you for that precious gift. We love you!7b1a5882
