LBI 2017 is off to the races!

Our first beach weekend of the season is underway!

Andrew seemed to really enjoy the beach especially collecting seashells, digging with shovels and chasing the waves! Mommy likes all the energy he burns! What you don’t see in these pictures is Andrew’s odd need to take off his bathing suit. Once the wave knocked him down he insisted on dropping his pants to take off his wet shorts. Day 1, I forced him to keep them on. Day 2, he strolled home without pants on. Modesty is clearly not in his vocabulary.

Andrew was also a fan of swimming in the hot tub with Papa and ‘really-laxing’ ?Teddy got in on the lounging too! And some more family fun and snuggles with Papa and Coco!

  • It went too quickly!

    It went too quickly!

Back to work for this mama this past Monday! Hard to believe that 3 months has already gone by. One minute we were coming home from the hospital and next minute he’s off to school!

Without question, I’m so happy I took the time I could to take a break from work and spend time with my boys. They just change and grow way too quickly! While I’m excited to back in the adult world during the day, I’m also envious of mommies who get to stay home with their kiddos every day. I’ll definitely miss my mid-morning snuggles with Teddy Bear!

Mommy was sad but clearly Teddy was excited to start a new chapter; school! He joined Andrew at The Palmer School and the two get to interact throughout the day which makes me very happy! Note: I only cried a little in the parking lot when I dropped him off. #youcantfightbiology

  • Mr. & Mrs. Evans

    Mr. & Mrs. Evans

We ventured to Baltimore to celebrate the wedding of Maureen and Ryan. It was a full family affair because not only were all the Phillips there but Papa and Coco came to babysit! While mommy and daddy danced the night away…… Andrew enjoyed room service. Tough life!

  • Zoo!

    Zoo!

I soaked up the last week of maternity leave with a trip to the zoo…and Coco came too! Not surprisingly Andrew was most excited about seeing his buddy Austin and riding the train! The animals were less exciting for him though he LOVED feeding the goats! No fear! Riding the merry go round:

Meanwhile Teddy didn’t know what to make of all the strange sounds and sights:

    Mama’s Day

How lucky am I to be the mama that 2 of the sweetest and most adorable boys out there!? Showered with love and endulged with a walk at Natirar!❤️

  • Derby Day 2017

    Derby Day 2017

On May 6th we hosted our 3rd annual Kentucky Derby party, affectionately nicknamed ‘Bourbon in the Burbs.’ About 40 friends and family along with a dozen kiddos under the age of 4 joined in the festivities! It’s fun to see this event morph each year as families grown and change, i.e. this year included lots of toddlers running around wearing jockey hats and sneaking many(!) cookies when their parents weren’t looking. In the end though it’s a wonderful excuse to get our house ready for summer, see dear friends who’ve been in hiding all winter, dabble in some friendly gambling and of course, day drink! 😉

All my boys in their bow ties!

My boys are clearly less than excited about the big race!

  • Redneck Easter

    Redneck Easter

After a lovely and delicious lunch with the Phillips family in Far Hills, we headed home and played outside for a bit. We were super classy though; folding chairs in the driveway, mom and dad drinking beer, one kid passed out and the other kid without a shirt….and peeing in his pants. Just doing our part to keep property values high in Bernardsville!

    This: Quickly devolved into this:

  • Potty Log: Day 1

    Potty Log: Day 1

CAUTION: This post will be filled with multiple references to my child’s pee, poop and penis. Please skip if this is just too much information about the Phillips family. Seriously, no hard feelings.

The book says that on day 1 we’re supposed to strip the child down naked and take them to the bathroom as they start to pee. And that this will then lead to a mind-body connection ultimately translating to the child’s ability to verbalize their need to use the toilet. Theoretically this can be done in 3 days.

So with large coffees in hand, we did just that. Stripped Andrew down to just his Thomas tee shirt and let him fly free as a bird from the waste down. I’ll spare you every ‘pee-tail’ [I’m clearly loosing my mind…] but here are the highlights:

    • Andy and I spent 12 hours staring at our son and all his pieces and parts today looking for any sign that he was about to pee. I felt like I was 1 part interactive, committed parent and 1 part pervert.
    • Like a dog, Andrew successfully marked his territory all over the house today. Many times we were able to get him to the toilet at the end but not before a trail of pee was created.
    • He did say that ‘he needed to use the potty’ at times but I think it’s pretty random and mostly a new fun game for him. Yay for us!
    • Andrew showed little apprehension about sitting on his new throne. This was a BIG and pleasant surprise to me!
    • My powder room looks like a children’s library as we read a silly number of books while we tried to get him to go. [Insert image of Andy or I sitting on a tiny stool reading ridiculous amounts of Curious George today. I hate that monkey right about now…]
    • I never thought I’d have to say ‘Point your penis down’ so much in one afternoon…..and still get sprayed on the chest.
    • His one and only poop today was in the toilet!
    • Andy and I drank vodka cocktails on the deck during nap time to recharge. Seriously needed.
    • I still think he’s somewhere between ‘clueless’ and ‘I’m peeing’ in his understanding of what’s going on. Sadly he’s not some boy-genius when it comes to the loo and there’s still a LONG road ahead until well….pants.
    • BUT we ended on a high note-  He asked to use the potty and actually went at the end of this evening!!
    • There is a 99.99% chance he wets the bed tonight.
    • Oh and Teddy- the boy who rarely poops- decided to blow it out no less than 8 times today.

As for me, I’m licking my mommy wounds over some red wine right now and gearing up for day 2. They say this one is worse than day 1. God help us.

These images about sum up today:

  • ‘Framily’

    ‘Framily’

Friend- family or ‘framily’ is the best way to summarize our special relationship with the Hogans. It’s crazy to think that after 30+ years of friendship we’d have baby boys 2 days apart and live 10 minutes from each other. Well things got even nuttier when ‘the littles’ arrived just 4 days apart! Welcome to the clan Teddy and Charlie Ella!
